Actually, Macy’s has made clear that they’re not going back to the old Dayton’s practice of changing the display every year: the elves are here to stay. Static displays have long been the practice at comparable department stores in other cities—like Boston, where the holiday display was finally literally put out to pasture in the City Hall plaza after decades (DECADES) of use at a local department store. So, sorry, Twin Citizens who remember the glory days of fresh annual displays: they’re gone, baby, gone. (Jay)
